Anyways, back on topic. The past week I have been focused on expanding the level design and trying out a "new" technique for designing levels. Unlike in the past, I worked slowly on creating each area, trying to "perfect" them before moving on to another. The result? A small highly detailed level full of decals and carefully placed props (well...at least in my opinion). My new plan is to still focus on making levels very detailed, but creating the basic textured geometry first and then slowly adding details afterwards.
The result I hope to get with this method is larger, less detailed levels at first, but gradually more detailed and finished levels as development goes along. How I designed the "Niagara Apartments" was completely different. Instead of outlining the level's basic geometry, I just sort of worked from room to room -almost like instead of building the frame of the house first, I would build only a finished bathroom on its own.
