This has come to be expected for my longtime readers. The communist GreenPepper is late yet again. Of course it's related to medical problems. It would seem my condition is incurable, unfortunately, although more blood test results await and I certainly hope they find something wrong, something they can fix. I won't hold it against them if they don't. It just figures that even in a state of plenty, where all basic needs are fulfilled, one still cannot numb such seemingly trivial pains. Getting a blood test without local anesthesia is uncomfortable, but manageable because the pain does not last and has a purpose. The real horror is when pain, even of mild severity, does not cease, when it has no apparent cause, only speculated cause and has absolutely no purpose. It is not to say I am unlucky: I do not have to deal with swarms of mosquitoes and insects while I sleep, neither am I concerned about when I'll get my next meal, but "what if" does not take the present away. I know that I am not alone in my predicament, there are millions also in chronic pain, many far worse than mine, even if I find that hard to accept.
Got some more mapping done this week, worked mostly on optimization as compile times started to get too long for testing and I noticed reductions in performance. Once I cleaned up part of the map, removed unnecessary displacements (terrain) and formed a skybox around the edges, performance and compile times improved greatly. In addition to optimization, I have been working on the oil rig for the intro sequence; I'll be working on finishing the scripting first before I get the smaller details completed.
For the past two weeks, I have been doing some work on the storyline and returning to work on the level design. I must push things forward and refocus my time on the level design as I feel I have enough of the storyline outlined to finish much of Alpha 1, which hopefully will be released sometime later this month. In addition, I am working on reviving the Freedom4Gamers Wiki. The changes to the wiki are not yet public.
